ECE SubHub is a fast‑growing, mission‑driven staffing partner supporting early childhood programs across Michigan. We connect high‑quality substitute teachers with childcare centers and preschools that rely on dependable staffing to keep classrooms open and children learning. Our team is small, collaborative, and deeply committed to strengthening the early childhood workforce. Every role here directly impacts educators, families, and communities.

We are seeking a strategic, hands‑on Senior HR Generalist to lead our two‑person HR function. While titled “Senior HR Generalist,” the role operates much like a full‑charge, one‑person HR department — ideal for someone who enjoys building, optimizing, and making a meaningful impact across the organization. This is an exceptional opportunity for a strong HR Generalist who is ready to take the next step in their career and grow alongside a rapidly scaling company.

About the Role
As the Senior HR Generalist, you will be the driving force behind the company’s people strategy and day‑to‑day HR operations. Supporting a workforce of 100+ employees across Michigan, you’ll partner closely with the three Founders while also rolling up your sleeves to ensure HR processes run smoothly and efficiently. This is a hands‑on, full‑charge HR role responsible for owning and executing every aspect of HR — from strategic planning to daily execution.

Your responsibilities will include:
Recruitment, Scheduling & Onboarding
  • Lead and support the Recruiter and Placement Coordinator; step in during high‑volume periods.
  • Actively recruit: source candidates, review resumes, conduct interviews.
  • Oversee onboarding, I‑9s, pre‑employment tasks, and Paylocity setup.
  • Collaborate with the COO and Placement Coordinator on staffing needs.
Employee Relations & Performance Management
  • Lead employee relations, investigations, corrective actions, and terminations.
  • Guide managers on performance expectations and documentation.
  • Serve as the primary contact for employee concerns and policy interpretation.
Payroll & HRIS (Paylocity)
  • Process bi‑weekly payroll for internal staff and substitute teachers.
  • Maintain accurate time, pay, and deduction records.
  • Serve as Paylocity administrator and run HR/payroll reports.
Benefits & Leave Management
  • Administer benefits, open enrollment, life events, and 401(k).
  • Manage FMLA, medical, and personal leaves; coordinate disability claims.
  • Track leave‑related hours and maintain accurate documentation.
Compliance, Licensing & Safety
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims and OSHA logs.
  • Maintain personnel files and licensing documentation per Michigan childcare regulations.
  • Track certification renewals (CPR, CDA, TB) and send reminders.
Offboarding & HR Operations
  • Manage offboarding and system updates.
  • Recommend improvements to HR processes and policies.
  • Support additional HR duties as needed.
Experience You will Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of progressive HR experience; staffing experience preferred.
  • HRIS experience required; Paylocity strongly preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and sound judgment.
  • High professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Flexibility to address urgent issues outside standard hours when needed.

What’s In It for You
  • A true growth opportunity: As the company expands, so will your role — with the potential to evolve into a higher‑level HR leadership position.
  • High visibility and influence: You’ll work directly with the Founders and shape the HR function from the ground up.
  • Autonomy and ownership: This is your HR department — you’ll have the freedom to build, improve, and innovate.
  • Mission‑driven work: Your efforts directly support early childhood educators and the programs that rely on them.
  • A collaborative, supportive culture: You’ll join a small, passionate team that values initiative, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Flexibility: Remote work with the ability to manage your schedule, plus occasional local travel in the Detroit Metro area to stay connected with the team and new hires.
